Literacy
Tutoring
We offer literacy tutoring in the following areas: reading accuracy, reading fluency, spelling, reading comprehension, and writing.
We use an individualized structured literacy approach to tutoring based on Orton-Gillingham principles.
Children signed up for literacy tutoring typically attend two sessions per week to ensure that there is enough time and consistency for children to learn and maintain the skills they are being taught.
In-office, online, and in-school options available
Pricing:
$110/session (55 min) at our office or online
$120/session in-school
**Note that in-school tutoring is subject to school approval**
Literacy Intensives
Literacy intensives are designed for children who are significantly below grade level in reading, writing, or spelling. The aim of this program is to bring about accelerated progress for children with literacy difficulties. We use a systematic, structured literacy (Orton-Gillingham based) approach to intervention. Structured literacy is the only approach recommended by the International Dyslexia Association for children with language-based learning difficulties.
Intensives are typically undertaken for a period of 8-10 weeks, with approximately 5-10 hours of instruction per week. An individualized program will be designed for each student based on the child’s needs. Intensive tutoring builds the literacy skills necessary for children to access regular and/or special education services and curriculum that they were previously unable to benefit from due to the severity of their literacy difficulties. The goal is to return the child to their regular school schedule and transition to a less intensive tutoring load (e.g., two hours per week) as quickly as possible.
In-office and in-school options available depending on timing and location
Kindergarten Readiness
Kindergarten Readiness is appropriate for all pre-school children, but is primarily aimed at children who are showing early signs of learning or speech/language difficulties or who have a familial risk for learning difficulties.
We focus on the development of 5 key areas that are crucial to academic success: expressive language, receptive language, phonological awareness, letter knowledge, and attention/self-regulation. We build these skills through engaging hands-on activities designed to enrich children's language and learning and prepare them for the primary school environment.
Sessions are 30 min, twice per week

$75/session
multisensory Math
Multisensory Math is an Orton-Gillingham based approach to math intervention developed by Marilyn Zecher. It focuses on using multisensory instruction to help children learn mathematical concepts. Instruction begins with concrete representations using math manipulatives and moves toward abstract mathematical representations and understanding. This approach was developed for children with co-occurring language and/or literacy difficulties, but is effective for all children.
NOTE: Rocky Mountain Literacy is not currently offering Multisensory Math, but we plan to do so again in the future.
